For my Value Assignment, the opposite objects I chose was a rock and feathers. One of the properties of Value is the visual illusion of weight and my attempt of showing this was through contrast. The rock is designed to look heavy compared to the feathers because it is a solid grey while the feathers are see-through or of various transparencies, thus they are made to appear lighter in weight. Things I could've done differently would be to draw the feathers better (look again - don't they look like chili peppers?) and to have the feathers in various sizes instead of just the one.
I learned and love how an image created with just the grey scale can provide such impact and how the use of low and high contrast (especially when overlapped) can draw the attention of an observer.
A risk I took was that instead of floating feathers (which is a common image), I chose a rock to fall from the sky instead of it belonging in its usual habitat, being on the ground. Additionally, I'm trying to communicate that although the rock may initially seem to be stronger than feathers - the feather pile, though soft, will "catch" the heavy rock and provide it with a safe landing.
I definitely feel that you demonstrate "Value" with your assignment. By using the elements rock and feathers is how you created I great meaning and understanding of Value.
ReplyDeleteThe strength I see in your design, mostly is how you created the feeling of contrast and the illusion of weight. By using the rock you represent (solid item, heaviness, hardness) and with the feathers you represent (lightness, smoothness, softness). All this was achieved by the use of sizes, colors, shapes and shades with the gray scale.
The weakness I see are the feathers. I agree with you and I see the same according to the feathers the ones look like something is missing. Giving my simple opinion and for the perspective of my view I think that the would had look better if you had used different shades and tones of transparency in order to make them look as some in the back and some in the front, also perhaps to draw the feathers a little more detailed so they really looked like feathers and you didn't has the feeling of "chilly peppers' also playing with the sizes would have given a different look.
The overall is great! I love the objects you choose and I can certainly see the meaning of 'Value" in your project. I love the risk you took in making it look different mostly with the safe landing part. Great job!
Veronica: Thanks for the feedback :) For future projects, I will definitely think of using various sizes to give the overall image a more realistic look.
